Ruby Tuesday Jewellers

Ruby Tuesday Jewellers (RTJ) was founded in 1998 by Reynaud Stark as a Sole Proprietorship specialising in the design and handcrafting of Jewellery in gold and silver. The business soon grew to include pieces in platinum and RTJ also started cutting and polishing semi-precious stones for selected customers. Multi-material pieces (wood, warthog tusks, giraffe bone, mineral specimens, etc integrated with precious metals) became a firm favourite amongst customers.

In 1999 RTJ became a Close Corporation. This heralded a big increase in the percentage of platinum pieces and specialist setting was added to the portfolio of services.

RTJ also started training Gold and Silversmiths, their curriculum being one of the few to include modules in both setting and gemstone cutting. Soon after, RTJ bought a controlling share in Sammy’s Jewel Tools in 2003 to become a major player in tool, equipment and consumable supplies to the local Jewellery Manufacturing Industry. Training activities became more important, and to ensure focus, RTJ formed a specialized training subsidiary, Manic Monday Jewellers.

Ruby Tuesday Jewellers are first and foremost Manufacturing Jewellers specialising in designing and making one-off handcrafted pieces of high quality for individual clients. Designs are always done in consultation with the client and all reasonable wishes or suggestions are incorporated within the scope of the specific jeweller’s own particular style.

All other activities, like training, setting and gemstone cutting, are in support of the main business and are therefore incorporated into separate business units as far as possible to ensure that they do not dilute focus on the main business. Training, for example, is aimed at creating a pool of talented and well trained individuals from which future employees can be chosen.

Client Base

Ruby Tuesday Jewellers do not rely on passing trade. They have very few once-off “customers of opportunity” and their main strength is their loyal and ever growing base of return customers.
